ATV Helmets

There are many good reasons to wear ATV helmets when you are off-roading. Some people think that ATV helmets are only for safety in case of an accident. That is the first and best reasons, but helmets actually work in many ways to keep you comfortable and safe while you're driving or riding your all-terrain vehicle. The full-faced helmet will protect your face from large bugs hitting you at high speeds. The helmet also cuts down on the noise from wind, which will allow you to hear other things better. The helmet protects you from the elements and will help keep your head warm, even in colder weather. Also, if you wear glasses or contact lenses, the helmet will help protect your expensive eyewear from debris, or in the case of contacts, falling out of your eyes. Additionally, the wind will not be able to dry out your eyes, your nose, or aggravate your throat or sinuses.

ATV helmets and motorcycle helmets are not exactly the same. If you already own a motorcycle helmet that fits you well and you are comfortable with, you can wear it when driving your ATV. But if you are shopping for a new helmet, be aware that there are a few difference between ATV helmets and motorcycle helmets. The biggest is that there is additional padding at the chin that juts out in front of your face. Off-road or motocross helmets also provide optimal ventilation and they tend to have flip-up visors. They are designed for the realities of off-roading, while motorcycle helmet designers have other sorts of riders in mind.

Also, keep in mind that many states require helmets for all motorcycles and ATVs. If you are considering riding without one, you should double check your local laws. Most states have very heavy fines for people who do not wear required helmets. If you already own an ATV helmet, keep in mind that helmets will deteriorate over time, and most people recommend replacing your helmet every five years. Different manufacturers will have different suggestions for replacement. The safety of yourself and your passengers is worth the perceived additional cost.
